Is temperature control important in the carbon fiber molding process?

Author:

The most common molding process used in the production of carbon fiber products is forming. The carbon fiber molding process requires three key conditions: pressure, temperature and time. In these three conditions, temperature plays a key role in the carbon fiber molding process. At the same time, temperature control will also have a certain impact on the quality of carbon fiber products, and we will take you through the influence of temperature on the carbon fiber molding process:

First of all, let's talk about the whole process of molding: when we want to mold carbon fiber, we need to lay the cut carbon fiber prepreg on the mold first, then preheat the mold, then apply pressure through hydraulic machinery, lock the mold and continue to increase the temperature. When the temperature reaches the highest level, a certain amount of holding time is reserved.

The high temperature of the mold will cause the cross-linking reaction of the material in advance, which will promote the inconsistent curing of the resin inside and outside the prepreg, and make the carbon fiber products easy to produce cracks and deformation. In the production process, the temperature of the mold needs to be controlled, combined with the temperature of the resin curing point, adjusting different temperatures at different times. In order to avoid warping, swelling and other undesirable phenomena, it is also necessary to cool the mold. If the temperature is too low, the material flow will be reduced, the cross-linking reaction will not be fully carried out, and the strength of carbon fiber products will be reduced.

Therefore, temperature control is crucial to the molding process of carbon fiber products, and how to master the temperature control also becomes the key to determine the quality of carbon fiber products.
